Definition of insanity is booing Lacob

Maybe people are right and Monday nights Oracle debacle started with a desire by fans to express their anger over the Monta Ellis trade andor the 30 years of Warriors mediocrity. If thats the case, fans being angry at team owner Joe Lacob for trading Ellis andor for not doing enough to fix the Warriors is madness. All the Warriors have done under Lacobs leadership is swing for the fences. In this day and age where fans across this land lament that their favorite teams owner seems more interested in profit than championships, Lacob and his team have consistently tried to remake this roster into a championship roster. Their belief is that getting a top center is the key in that endeavor. And, after reaching for Tyson Chandler, DeAndre Jordan, and Dwight Howard (maybereportedly), they finally think theyve got a center in Andrew Bogut. Whether you agree or not with the Warriors' plan, you cant say that Lacobs group isnt doing everything possible to aggressively enact that plan. Ill tell you something else: I talked with Lacob after the Milwaukee game. I told him how struck I was by his willingness to spend money in an era where teams are almost pathologically conditioned to avoid taking on big money, multi-year contracts. Hes taken on Richard Jeffersons 10 million deal. Andrew Boguts got two years and 27 million left on his. He traded for the RETIRING T.J. Fords 1 million contract so the Warriors could acquire another draft pick. I asked Lacob point blank Are you willing to pay the NBA luxury tax to make the Warriors a better team? His response: Im willing to do whatever is necessary to make this team a winner. I know thats not exactly a yes, but its pretty far from a no too. Bottom line Warriors fans: Youve got a team owner whos demonstrated his willingness to spend money and to take bold moves to make your team (finally) a winner. Well see if his plan is a good one, but I think youve got to cheer him for at least HAVING a plan.
