BOX SCORE
Warriors 97, Timberwolves 94Player of the game: Warriors power forward David Lee finished with 31 points and eight rebounds to help the Warriors snap a season-high six-game losing streak. The Warriors are 1-2 on their four-game road trip.Key stretch: Warriors rookie guard Charles Jenkins wound his way through traffic and converted a layup over Kevin Love with 20 seconds remaining to give the Warriors a 96-94 lead.Im not surprised because hes a gamer, Warriors coach Mark Jackson said of Jenkins. He works his tail off, competes and defends and was one of the best players on the court out there. On the Timberwolves next possession, J.J. Barea missed a leaner in the lane with seven seconds remaining that could have tied the game. Jenkins made one of two free throws with one second remaining to account for the final margin.Lee-Love matchup: There was no truth to the rumor that Lee and Love had a nodnod, winkwink" deal when it came to Wednesdays game. But both players put up big offensive numbers and part of the reason was most certainly that they guarded each other for much of the night.Lee finished with 31 points on 13-for-25 from the field. As for Love, he finished with 29 pointson 12-for-28 from the fieldand 12 rebounds. But he missed all seven of his 3-point attempts. You dont stop him, Jackson said of Love. We tried to limit his touches by trapping him a little bit to get the ball out of his hands.Tough second quarter: The Warriors couldnt buy a bucket in the second quarter, and it was the reason they got down big. The Timberwolves led just 26-21 after one period, but the Warriors scored just four points in the first nine-plus minutes of the second quarter.By the time the Warriors got their offense going, they were down 43-25 and the damage had been done. The Warriors would eventually get down by 20 points49-29before they chipped away and cut the deficit to 51-39 by halftime.Dreadful from beyond arc: The Timberwolves lent a helping hand to the Warriors by continuing to shoot from 3-point range. Despite having a size advantage on the interior with Love and Nikola Pekovic, the Timberwolves took 31 3-pointers, making just nine.Meanwhile, the Warriors were penetrating and scoring in the lane, something a little uncharacteristic for them.We realized they didnt have a shot-blocker in there, Jackson said. And we got into the painted area and we were aggressive.Thompson struggling: Warriors rookie shooting guard Klay Thompson is mired in a shooting slump and he didnt come out of it against Minnesota.Thompson went just 6-16 from the floor against the Timberwolves, including two misses in the final three minutes. Thompson is shooting just 40.9 percent over the past six games (36-for-88).
