Mullin, Phil Jackson to talk about inner game

Chris Mullin was always considered a thinking mans player,and coach Phil Jackson has long been known for his cerebral approach to thegame.Those two men, along with Zen teacher Jakusho Kwong-roshi,will be discussing and sharing their views on the spiritual nature of sports,overcoming challenges and the essence of teamwork at an event and forum atSanta Rosa Junior College on Sunday.Mullin recently co-authored a book with Tom Mitchell, a formersports psychology professor, called Inner Game Basketball. The book focuseson the values players learn within the game of basketball that help better themas players on the court and people off of it.Jackson, considered one of the greatest coaches in NBAhistory, and coach of 11 championship teams, brought a spiritual approach tocoaching, earning him the nickname: Zen Master.Jackson is also involved with the Positive CoachingAlliance, a nonprofit group that stresses sportsmanship and respect for thegame. Mitchell was the one who brought the group together.This isnt about basketball plays or offenses or thingslike that, Mullin said on Wednesday. Its about life lessons learned frombasketballthat you use throughout your life.
