Report: Warriors assistant Malone eliminated from Magic head coach search

Michael Malones future with the Warriors is safe for now.Golden States assistant coachis no longer being considered for the head coaching job with the Orlando Magic,according to Sports Illustrateds Sam Amick.Agent Steve Kauffman confirms Golden State asst. Michael Malone was told by Magic GM Rob Hennigan that he is no longer being considered. Orlandohas begun narrowing down its field of candidates, and Pacers assistant BrianShaw withdrew himself from consideration on Sunday.Malone has coached in the NBA for 11 years, nine of them asan assistant coach. He came to the Warriors before last season after serving asthe lead assistant coach for the New Orleans Hornets. Malone also coached withthe Cavaliers for five years.Malone finished first in a 2011 NBA.com poll of generalmanagers asked to name the leagues top assistant coach. He is noted for hiswork improving players defensively, including working with LeBron James in Cleveland and the Hornetsdefensive improvements in the 2010-11 season.Malones agent, Steve Kauffman expressed interest in thePortland Trail Blazers coaching vacancy in May, so Malone may still be on themove this offseason.
