Warriors' assistant GM mentioned as Clippers candidate

Warriors assistant general manager Travis Schlenk, who justcompleted his eighth season with the team, is being mentioned as a possiblegeneral manager candidate for the L.A. Clippers.Neil Olshey, who had been the Clippers vice president ofbasketball operations, recently left to become the Portland Trail Blazersgeneral manager.The Los Angeles Times on Saturday mentioned about ahalf-dozen potential GMs to replace Olshey, and Schlenks name was on that listalong with former Nets and Nuggets GM Kiki Vandeweghe, Pacers GM Scott Morway,former Lakers assistant GM Ronnie Lester, Pistons assistant general managerScott Perry, former Timberwolves assistant GM Tony Ronzone, and Clippersdirector of player personnel Scott Sacks.If the Clippers want to interview Schlenk, they would firsthave to seek permission from the Warriors. That has not happened, according toteam sources.Schlenk first worked as a video scout and assistant coachfor the Warriors before being elevated to director of player personnel threeyears ago. Schlenk was promoted to assistant general manager after Joe Lacobbought the team in 2010.Schlenk has performed a variety of roles with theorganization over the years, including assisting with trade and free agentdiscussions, player contracts and salary cap analysis. Of all the Warriors executives and scouts, nobody in theorganization sees more games than Schlenk. He is on the road much of the season,scouting college, the D-League and other NBA games.He is currently in Treviso, Italy, at the adidas Eurocamp, ashowcase for the best international players.
