Wright is not having as bad a year as you think

You know whos not having as bad of a year as you think?Dorell Wright. Now, that isnt to say hes having a good year, or even thathes built on his breakout season in 2010-11. He hasnt. But his numbers arent a huge dropoff from a year ago. Yes,his scoring is down, but so are his minutes. Warriors coach Mark Jackson hasntgiven Wright the free rein coach Keith Smart did a year ago, and the team isntplaying nearly as uptempo.Jackson has the luxury of being able to use Brandon Rushandor Dominic McGuire, and hes taken advantage of it. Bottom line is Wrightsminutes have gone from 38 minutes per game last year to a little under 27minutes per game this year. So, its clearly understandable howwhy Wright has gone froma career-best 16.4 points per game last year to 9.9 points per game this year. But other than that, Wrights numbers are in line from last yearwheneveryone pretty much agreed he was having a nice season.Wright is shooting 42.2 percent from the field this year, including 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. Those percentages are almost thesame as a year ago.In addition, Wright is rebounding at a better rate than ayear ago.Again, this isnt to say Wright has been terrific, but hisdown year hasnt been as down as you think. Wright came to the Warriors as afree agent signing from Miami billed as mostly a defender. Its probably unfair to say Wright has been a bad defenderin his nearly two years with Golden State, but his defense hasnt stuck out, either. That has put more of an emphasis on his offense, which can be shaky attimes. Especially when hes not being created for.But there also have been plenty of instances this seasonwhen Wright has played just fine for the first two or three quarters, andJackson has gone away from him in the fourth. All things considered, though, Wright is more of thesolution than the problem moving forward. Hes got one more year remaining onhis deal at just 4.1 million in 2012-13.Wright might not be having the greatest year, but hescertainly not a big issue as far as the Warriors are concerned.
