Coach Keith Smart, who went 20-39 in his first season coaching the Kings, had his contract extended Monday through the 2013-14 season.
The move was announced by Sacramento's President of Basketball Operations, Geoff Petrie.
Im excited to continue this process with the Kings, Smart said. Were trying to get our franchise moving in the right direction. The goal is to keep moving in that positive direction, and Im glad that I get that opportunity. Its been great working with Geoff and his staff and communicating with the Maloofs in this process.

Before leading the Kings, Smart, 47, coached the Warriors (2010-11), and Cavaliers (2002-03). He has a lifetime record of 65-116 (.359). The Warriors decided not to extend Smarts contract last year after he replaced Don Nelson before training camp in 2010.
Smart was named Sacramento's head coach on January 5, 2012, becoming the franchises 24th head coach. He took over for the fired Paul Westphal in January after a 2-5 start.

Smart hit the game-winning shot in the 1987 NCAA championship game, lifting Indiana to a 7473 victory over Syracuse.
