ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Barry Zito had this outlook on going to the bullpen:
Better to join them than beat on them.
Aware that his short and tumultuous starts had put the club in a constant innings deficit on the road, Zito went into Bochy’s office after his start last Tuesday in Philadelphia to discuss options.
The outcome: he’ll be available in relief, Guillermo Moscoso will take his start Sunday at Tropicana Field, and with Ryan Vogelsong expected back five days after that, the rest is an open proposition.
One that Zito was loath to discuss after the Giants’ 4-1 victory Friday night.
“I’m thinking about today,” said Zito, who has a 9.97 ERA in nine starts away from AT&T Park, all losses. “Any time we get into the future, it’s all hearsay. It’s about feeling good and going out there and being pitch to pitch.
Addressing reporters, he continued, “That’s your guys’ job, to project all those things.”
