SAN FRANCISCO -- Brett Pill would go to any lengths to be on the Giants’ roster – even leaving the country. Hopefully for him, his passport is current.

The Giants tweaked their roster prior to beginning a two-game series in Toronto on Tuesday. They recalled Pill from Triple-A Fresno and optioned outfielder Francisco Peguero to the Grizzlies.

Pill, 28, is not the newest flavor of the month but he’s been quite possibly the hottest hitter in pro baseball since recovering from knee surgery in early April. He was hitting .341/.380/.675 with nine home runs, 13 doubles and a triple among his 43 hits. He also had a whopping 47 RBIs in just 32 games, taking advantage of ample situations with runners on base in a well greased Grizzlies lineup.

Peguero was hitting better than .400 when he came up earlier this month, mostly to provide outfield depth after Angel Pagan became day-to-day with a hamstring injury that turned out to be a strained groin muscle. But with Pagan seemingly able to play through the discomfort, the Giants are able to go back to having just one spare outfielder.

Pill can play a bit of left field, too, but he’s more likely to get occasional starts at first base if Brandon Belt’s inconsistency continues. And the Giants, of course, will need a designated hitter Tuesday and Wednesday against the Blue Jays. They’ll play in an AL park again the following week at Oakland.
