SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Surgery has come quite a long way since the days of biting on bullets.

Brett Pill underwent a routine cleanup procedure on his right knee Thursday morning in San Francisco, then boarded a flight and was expected to arrive at Scottsdale Stadium by the first pitch of the 1 p.m. exhibition against Team Japan.

Everything went as planned in the arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Pill, who was accompanied back to Arizona by Dr. Ken Akizuki, will begin rehab work right away and is expected to be fully recovered within three weeks.

Pill was fighting for one of the final two roster spots as a right-handed bench bat. Now he’s likely to begin the season at Triple-A Fresno.
