LOS ANGELES As much as theGiants would love to eliminate their archrivals, their top priority over thisfinal series at Dodger Stadium is to remain healthy for postseason play.

So even though Buster Poseys backspasms were believed to be minor and his exit merely a precaution after eightinnings, its no small thing when an injury involves the NLs leading MVPcandidate.

Posey felt something in his backwhen he hit the bag while trying to beat out an infield tapper, Giants managerBruce Bochy said. Posey made the safe sign as he hit the bag but first base umpire Paul Emmel ruled that the throw beat him.

We had to take him out, Bochysaid. We dont think its serious, but well check with him tomorrow. Runningdown the line, hitting the bag, he felt something there. Its for precautionaryreasons.

Posey collected his 101stRBI when he double in Marco Scutaro in the first inning and finished 1 for 4 todrop just one point off his average to .336 tops in the NL, once MelkyCabreras .346 average becomes unofficial on Wednesday. The Pirates AndrewMcCutchen was 1 for 3 to remain next best, at .329.

Elian Herreras bases-loadedsingle off Santiago Casilla in the ninth inning sent the Dodgers to a 3-2victory; with two to play, they remained two back of the St. Louis Cardinalsfor the second NL wild card spot
