A's place Anderson on 60-day DL, claim IF Brandon Hicks

OAKLAND, Calif.The Oakland As claimed infielder Brandon Hicks off waivers from the Atlanta Braves, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the As placed left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson on the 60-day disabled list as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Hicks was on the Braves Opening Day roster last year and hit .048 (1-for-21) in 17 games over three stints with Atlanta. He appeared in nine games on defense, including six at third base and three at shortstop. Hicks spent the balance of the season at Triple-A Gwinnett, batting .252 with 18 home runs and 50 RBI in 104 games. The 26-year-old right-handed hitter made his Major League debut with Atlanta in 2010 and is 1-for-26 (.038) in 33 career games. He was originally drafted by the Braves in the 3rd round of the 2007 draft and is a .241 hitter with 62 home runs and 211 RBI in 473 games over five seasons in the minors. Hicks was 1-for-10 (.100) with a double in six games with the Braves this spring.
