Willingham signs with Twins

The A's outfield posed the biggest questions going into the offseason; one of those questions was answered Tuesday.

"Josh has three viable options," Josh Willingham's agent Matt Sosnick told the Minnesota Star Tribune. "He and his wife, Ginger, are going to make a decision in the next 48 hours. It may come as early as today."

Well, it did, and and Willingham will be joining the Minnesota Twins on a multi-year deal, pending completion of a physical, according to a report by ESPN.com.

Willingham, 32, led the A's last season with 29 home runs and 98 RBI.

As a modified Type-A free agent, the A's net two draft picks with Willingham's signing: A pick directly before the Twins' first-round pick, as well as a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds.

The Twins reportedly offered Michael Cuddyer a three-year, 24 million contract -- the highest they were willing to go -- and didn't heard back for a week. Cuddyer is believed to make his decision over the next three or four days, but the slow goings with Cuddyer and the progress with Willingham landed Minnesota a new 6-foot, 2-inch, 220-pound, right-handed slugging outfielder.

Cuddyer, also a modified Type-A free agent, would not cost the team he signs with a first-round pick.
