Are Anderson or Colon postseason options?

OAKLAND -- The Oakland Athletics have a starting rotation that completely consists of rookies. They could get an infusion of experienced arms once the postseason comes around. Brett Anderson has been throwing side sessions and the team hasn't ruled out the option of him returning for the playoffs. Veteran Bartolo Colon's suspension is currently at 40 games.
So is there a real chance either of these pitchers can return? Yes and no. Starting with Anderson, his outlook is getting better by the day. He is 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA, 25 strikeouts and just seven walks in six starts this season. He left his last start 14 days ago, with a strained right oblique.

"It's not for sure yet but the words 'hope' and 'possibility' are in there as opposed to saying unlikely," general manager Billy Beane said. "It's not the word I'd use use. I'd say more likely."Anderson missed 14 months with Tommy John surgery and went 4-0 in his first starts after returning. He is easily one of the most talented and experienced pitchers the A's have available. The most important thing is not rushing him back. "We'll do the best we can and we certainly won't throw him out there if he isn't comfortable," A's manager Bob Melvin said.

Colon still has 10 games remaining on his suspension. The A's would have to get deep into the playoffs for him to be a factor. When asked, Beane said that he hasn't even considered the option of using Colon yet.Colon went 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA for Oakland this season. In 152 13 innings pitched he struck out 91 batters and only walked 23. He was suspended for violating Major League Baseball's performance-enhancing drug policy on August 22. The A's have gotten by without Colon, opening day starter Brandon McCarthy, and Anderson. Their rookie starting pitchers have set a Major League record with 53 wins combined this season.
