The A's 3.44 team ERA is the best in the American League. Tampa Bay's 3.57 team ERA is the second best in the American League. Therefore, expect this series to be of the low-scoring variety.
Coco Crisp is getting another day off to rest his sore hamstring. He will get some work in on the field prior to the game. Jemile Weeks will be leading off in place of Crisp as usual.
With the addition of the left-handed hitting George Kottaras, the A's had to ship out one of their two right-handed hitting catchers. They chose to send Derek Norris to Sacramento, keeping Kurt Suzuki with the club.
Travis Blackley didn't have his best stuff on Sunday, allowing five runs in five innings of work, as the A's fell to the Orioles 6-1. It's Blackley's first loss since June 10. Despite the defeat, it was a successful 4-2 road trip.
