UPDATE: Wilson faces hitters, readies for March 11 debut

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- For the first time since early September, the Beard stared down hitters again.

Closer Brian Wilson continued to look strong in his slow and cautious buildup from a strained right elbow Sunday morning. He faced hitters for the first time this spring, and appeared to throw crisp and hard during his live batting practice session.

"It was a pretty good outing," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "He got his work on. Its goodfor him to see hitters. All went well."

Bochy said Wilson, barring a setback, is on the schedule to make his Cactus League debut on March 11.

There were no apparent hiccups as Wilson pitched on a back field at Scottsdale Stadium. he faced Gary Brown, Emmanuel Burriss and Brandon Belt -- the top three hitters in a split-squad lineup that later bused to play the Milwaukee Brewers at Maryvale.

Wilson threw 20 pitches and was around the plate with all of them. Burriss said he saw cutters, four-seam fastballs and even one slider.

"I won't tell you the order, though," Burriss said, smiling. "He's confident. It feels good for us from the Giants' perspective to see him out there. I don't think too many people are worried about him right now."
