The Sharks have traded forward Brandon Mashinter to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Tommy Grant and a conditional seventh round pick in 2014. Grant has been assigned to the Sharks’ AHL affiliate in Worcester.

Grant, 26, has nine goals and seven assists for 16 points and 15 penalty minutes in 34 games with the AHL Connecticut Whale this season. In 113 career AHL games over three seasons, all with Connecticut, Grant has 20 goals and 22 assists for 42 points and 56 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Whale, Grant spent four years at the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

The 6-2, 195-pounder was signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on March 29, 2011.

Mashinter, a left wing, was in his fourth season with the Sharks organization. He spent much of his time with Worcester (AHL), and was scoreless with 17 penalty minutes in 13 games with San Jose in 2010-11.

In 236 career games with Worcester, Mashinter had 54 goals and 54 assists for 108 points and 324 penalty minutes.
