Keep an eye on…

Sharks: Joe Thornton. The Sharks’ captain took a few shifts with the fourth line on Sunday against Columbus, and was on the ice for Andrew Desjardins’ goal. Although he’s still the team’s leading scorer with 39 points, Thornton’s game has been on a bit of a roller coaster in recent week.

Stars: Jamie Benn. The Stars’ top line center leads the team with 32 points (11g, 21a) and has five points in his last four games. Against the Sharks, Benn has eight points in his last seven games (3g, 5a).

Last game

Sharks: The Sharks erased a 3-1 third period deficit against Columbus only to lose on Ryan Johansen’s late goal in regulation, 4-3. Marty Havlat, Andrew Desjardins and Joe Pavlelski scored for San Jose, but Pavelski and Justin Braun teamed up for a bad turnover leading to the winning goal with 1:37 left. Antti Niemi took the loss in net with 18 saves.

Stars: Alex Goligoski gave Dallas a 3-2 third period lead, but Dustin Brown tied it and Jeff Carter’s overtime goal gave the Kings a 4-3 win. Loui Eriksson and Antoine Roussel also scored for Dallas, while Kari Lehtonen made 27 saves.

Injuries

Sharks: Jason Demers has a sprained ankle and will be out indefinitely.

Stars: Alex Chiasson (shoulder injury) is questionable.

Season series

Dallas has won all three of the matchups in the season series. This is the fourth and final game.

On Feb. 23, the Stars won 3-1 in Dallas and fought back from a pair of two-goal deficits on April 7 at HP Pavilion to win, 5-4, in a shootout. In the most recent meeting, the Stars won 2-1 at American Airlines Center on April 13.

Jamie Benn leads all scorers in the series with four points (1g, 3a). Alex Chiasson has three goals for Dallas, while Brent Burns has two for San Jose.

Quoteable

“We would have liked to wrap it up and get the point. It didn’t happen. Let’s move on, and be better from the start.” – Brad Stuart, after the 4-3 loss to Columbus on Sunday
