The Sharks entered the day one point ahead of the Stars for the 8th and final playoff spot in the West, but are now three points up following a huge 5-2 win over their division rival on the road.
The Los Angeles Kings could be without their top late-season acquisition, Jeff Carter, when they play the Sharks in a home-and-home to close out the regular season.
Despite tornadoes ripping through the Dallas area on Tuesday, and a warning in effect until 4:00 p.m. local time, the Sharks-Stars game at American Airlines Center is still scheduled to begin on time.
