SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers on Saturday signed eight players to the practice squad. Each of the eight players spent training camp with the club:OLB Cam Johnson -- The seventh-round draft pick from Virginia participated in just one exhibition game and very little of the team's offseason program with a knee problem. He underwent a surgical procedure in June.DT Tony Jerod-Eddie -- The undrafted rookie from Texas A&M played 51 games in college with 38 starts. He was a second-team All-Big 12 selection with 56 tackles and five sacks.DT Matthew Masifilo -- He was cut on Monday and returned a couple days later to play in the final exhibition game. Masifilo (Stanford) had an outstanding game with four quarterback hits and is rewarded with a spot on the practice squad.OL Al Netter -- A 6-foot-6, 310-pounder tied the Northwestern record with 52 consecutive starts. He attended Cardinal Newman High in Santa Rosa.WR Nathan Palmer -- The 49ers went with Palmer over the other undrafted free agents Chris Owusu and Brian Tyms. Palmer had 93 receptions and 1,575 and 16 touchdowns in 48 games with Northern Illinois.S Michael Thomas -- The undrafted rookie from Stanford has value for his play at safety as well as nickel back.OL Kenny Wiggins -- The former Fresno State standout took part in his second 49ers training camp. He spent part of last season with the Baltimore Ravens' practice.ILB Michael Wilhoite -- The first-year player from Washburn spent four games in 2011 with the Omaha Nighthawks before finishing the season on the 49ers' practice squad. He showed some good things on defense, special teams and played a couple snaps Thursday night at fullback. Practice squad players make 5,700 a week, as opposed to the rookie minimum of 22,941 weekly for a player on the 53-man roster. Practice squad players can be signed to any team's 53-man roster at any point during the season.
