Cleared of sexual assault charges in March, 49ers cornerback Perrish Cox now faces a civil lawsuit seeking unspecified damages. The woman who accused Cox of sexual assault stemming from an incident in September 2010 filed the lawsuit Sunday against Cox and Denver Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas, the Associated Press reported.Civil lawsuits have a lower threshold of proof, as opposed to a "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard in criminal cases."On behalf of our client, the victim, we will prosecute and prove these charges in a court of law," the woman's lawyer, Craig Silverman, write in an email to the AP.The woman became pregnant after visiting Cox's apartment following a night of partying. Prosecutors in the criminal trial reportedly presented a case in which the woman did not remember having sex, didn't consent to it, and that DNA tests proved Cox was the father. Cox's attorney presented a case that suggested the woman, as well as Cox, did not remember having sex, the AP reported. Two weeks after being found not guilty, Cox signed a two-year contract with the 49ers. Coach Jim Harbaugh said last week that Cox has stood out on the practice field during the offseason."Perrish Cox is having a real good offseason," Harbaugh said. "He's a good addition for us."The NFL has yet to grant Cox full clearance for the upcoming season, CSNBayArea.com recently reported."We will review the facts," NFL senior vice president of communications Greg Aiello told CSNBayArea.com. "That is standard procedure. We will decline to speculate on potential disciplinary action."
