Season-ending knee injuries to two of the 49ers' top four wide receivers -- Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams -- opened the door for rookie A.J. Jenkins to make a contribution.

And Jenkins had his chance in the first quarter with the 49ers trailing the Arizona Cardinals 3-0. On a third-and-5 situation, Jenkins was wide open on a crossing route, and Colin Kaepernick delivered the pass on target. Jenkins could've caught the ball in stride and easily picked up the first down.

Instead, he dropped it.

Jenkins played a season-high 19 snaps on Sunday, and that was the only pass Kaepernick threw his way. Jenkins, a first-round draft pick, was active for only three games the entire regular season, saw one pass thrown his way and did not have a reception.

Down two wide receivers, the 49ers have no threat right now from a third wide receiver. Ted Ginn, who played seven snaps on Sunday as the fourth receiver, has fewer yards receiving (1) than catches (two) on the season.

With no third receiver, the 49ers are using more of Randy Moss, second tight end Delanie Walker and fullback Bruce Miller.
