Running backs
21-Frank Gore: He started at halfback and was on the field for 41 of of team's 67 snaps. Gore rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. He did not catch a pass. He ran the ball effectively and made the right decisions on his way to gaining 7.6 yards per rushing attempt. It was a very good game, but there were some points on which he can improve. He was stopped twice at the goal line in the first half. And he was called for chop block in first quarter that wiped out a 41-yard gain by Michael Crabtree. Also, called for false start in third quarter.
23-LaMichael James: Was not active (coaches' decision).
24-Anthony Dixon: The 49ers' third-string running back played special teams and also played six snaps of offense. He gained 21 yards and a touchdown on six rushing attempts. He had one tackle on special teams.
32-Kendall Hunter: He played 21 snaps and had another strong game running the option pages out of the 49ers' playbook with backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick. . . Hunter carried 11 times for 81 yards (7.4 average). . . He got the 49ers out of a potentially bad position with a 12-yard run on a third-and-10 situation from their own 3-yard line late in the first half.
45-Brandon Jacobs: Was not active (coaches' decision).
49-Bruce Miller: He played 16 snaps and had an outstanding game in pass protection and run blocking. He also carried once for a career-long 9 yards. . . Good pass protection against DE Mark Anderson to allow QB Alex Smith time to hit Kyle Williams for a 43-yard TD in the second quarter. . . Made block to open way for Kaepernick to gain 15 yards on a third-quarter keeper. . . Made block on OLB Bryan Scott on Kaepernick's 16-yard TD run in fourth quarter.
92-Will Tukuafu: He is earning a bigger and bigger role on offense as a 293-pound fullback. On Sunday, he played 17 snaps on offense. . . He made block on Scott on Gore's 1-yard TD run in third quarter.
