SAN FRANCISCO -- Alex Smith's one drive resulted in a touchdown.Colin Kaepernick had the same result -- with a lot less time invested.Kaepernick entered the game with the starting offensive line, and the 49ers went with the no-huddle offense in the second quarter of their exhibition opener against the Minnesota Vikings.LaMichael James gained two yards on first down. Then, the 49ers hustled to the line of scrimmage and ran another player. Kaepernick kept the ball on a read-option. He broke into the secondary untouched and fended off Minnesota cornerback Chris Cook for the final yards of his 78-yard touchdown run.The 49ers' two-play scoring drive lasted all of 28 seconds.
Outside linebacker Aldon Smith sustained a hip injury and was removed from the game after two plays of the Vikings' second drive. After the 49ers' touchdown, he was taken by cart to the locker room, presumably for X-rays.The 49ers later disclosed that he sustained a hip bruise.
