Sure, coach Jim Harbaugh gave the 49ers six days off during the bye week. So, really, his whole sales pitch of it being "Improvement Week" is a little -- no, a lot -- far-fetched.But on Sunday, the 49ers actually did improve. The 49ers' lead in the NFC West standings is a full three games over the second-place Seattle Seahawks. And the 49ers extended their lead on the Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams, too.The Seahawks were 6-3 losers to the Cleveland Browns. And the Browns will be coming to Candlestick Park when the 49ers return to action Sunday. The Cardinals lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 32-20, and the hapless Rams remained winless with a 34-7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Each team in the NFC West has now played six games, and the 49ers are running away with the division.
NFC West standings
49ers 5-1 (Sunday, vs. Cleveland)
Seattle 2-4 (Sunday, vs. Cincinnati)
Arizona 1-5 (Sunday, at Baltimore)
St. Louis 0-6 (Sunday, vs. New Orleans)
