SANTA CLARA -- Running back Frank Gore showed few signs of a left ankle sprain when he walked off the field Wednesday following the 49ers morning walk-through.Coach Jim Harbaugh said he believes Gore will be able to practice in the afternoon, as the 49ers begin preparations to face the New York Giants on Sunday."I feel good," Harbaugh said. "From what Frank has said, yeah, he should be healthy to practice today. We anticipate that. And we'll go from there."
Harbaugh added, "I'm not in Frank's skin. I never am. That's the hard thing whenever anybody asks me, 'How's Frank going to be this afternoon in practice?' Or 'How's he going to be on Sunday?' It's hard to predict how somebody else is going to feel."Gore sustained a left ankle sprain in the second quarter of the 49ers' 19-11 victory Sunday over the Washington Redskins. He remained in the game and rushed for 107 yards on 19 carries. Earlier this season, he had a right ankle sprain.Through eight games, Gore has rushed 159 times for 782 yards and five touchdowns. In 2006, Gore carried a career-high 312 times. He is on pace to eclipse that mark this season. Harbaugh said he is cognizant of Gore's high volume of rushing attempts.
