DENVER -- Receiver Mario Manningham did not make the 49ers' trip to Denver after the passing of his grandfather.

The 49ers face the Denver Broncos at 1 p.m. Sunday in a nationally televised game (FOX).

Manningham on Friday wrote on Twitter that he was grieving:"Lost for words I just lost a man that knows me better than anyone can imagine ... have mercy on me!!! Rip Big Daddy"And on Saturday, Manningham wrote, "Hurting."

Randy Moss was scheduled to start at wide receiver for the 49ers on Sunday.

Also, running back LaMichael James did not travel with the 49ers for their third exhibition game. James is nursing a left ankle sprain. He sustained the injury while pass-blocking in the final minutes against the Houston Texans last week.
Running back Brandon Jacobs (left knee), cornerback Chris Culliver (right knee), receiver Joe Hastings (right leg) and outside linebackers Cam Johnson (knee) and Kourtnei Brown (leg) also did not travel. Outside linebacker Darius Fleming (knee) and running back Jewel Hampton (foot) have not been cleared to practice after reporting to camp with injuries.Outside linebacker Aldon Smith, who sustained a right hip bruise in the exhibition opener, wore game socks and cleats. It's not known if -- or how much -- he will play. He took part in pregame warmups, but was not yet moving without any problems. It's also uncertain how much action inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman will see. Bowman missed practice time last week with a knee injury.
