I think the coaches are going to do whatever we need to do to win.
—Colin Kaepernick

NEW ORLEANS -- After four or five game plans devoted specifically to the skills of Colin Kaepernick, 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said he gained a good understanding for his young quarterback's preparation.

"Colin is going to do whatever he needs to do to be prepared," Roman said Thursday. "Some weeks it's more. Some weeks it's less. He has a pretty good feel for what he needs."

Roman said Kaepernick is doing "really good" in picking up the game plan for Super Bowl XLVII against the Baltimore Ravens. The week of practice got off to a good start on Wednesday with an up-tempo workout at the New Orleans Saints practice facility in Metairie, La.

"Energy, focus, attention to detail, body language," Roman said. "The guys are energetic about getting it right."

Prior to the 49ers' playoff-opening victory over the Green Bay Packers, coach Jim Harbaugh described Kaepernick's mental grasp of the game plan as "savant-like."

And how would Roman describe Kaepernick's handle on the plan to face the Ravens?

"Pretty savant," he said. "He's doing really good."

Kaepernick said he is ready for anything Roman, the team's primary play-caller, dials up on Sunday.

"I think the coaches are going to do whatever we need to do to win," Kaepernick said. "The coaches will call what they think the best play is and what they think will help us get into the end zone."

On Thursday, Kaepernick fulfilled his final day of media obligations prior to the Super Bowl. All that is left is a few more days of work in meetings and practices before he takes the field for the biggest game of his life.

"I think our team is ready for this," Kaepernick said. "Our team has won in these situations. Our team has won games, so we are going to do whatever we can to make sure we are ready for this week."
