Punter Andy Lee, who came through late in the fourth quarter to help the 49ers preserve a 13-6 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday morning.
Lee averaged 45.6 yards (44.6 yards net) on five punts Thursday night against the Seahawks. Four of his punts pinned Seattle inside their own 20-yard line.None of his punts was more important than the 66-yard effort with 1:48 remaining in the game, which forced the Seahawks to begin their last-hope drive at their own 11-yard line. The 49ers held on to the victory when Seattle, in need of a touchdown to tie, could not make a first down.Lee, who set the NFL record with a 44.0 net punting average last season, has been named to the Pro Bowl in three of the past five seasons.
