After experiencing a quiet first five days of free agency, quarterback Alex Smith is beginning to attract some attention as a true free agent.Smith, who is visiting the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, will visit the Seattle Seahawks this week, reports the Sacramento Bee, citing a source familiar with Smith's itinerary.RELATED: Smith on visit to meet with Dolphins
It's a logical fit for Smith, considering former 49ers general manager Scot McCloughan currently works as Seahawks senior personnel executive. There was an obvious reluctancy for quarterback-needy teams to even consider Smith early after the free-agent signing period began. The league-wide perception was that it was a foregone conclusion Smith and the 49ers were destined to agree on a multi-year deal.MAIOCCO: Moving parts aplenty in 49ers' QB drama
After all, Smith said he expected to re-sign with the 49ers. And coach Jim Harbaugh said the 49ers organization was "lock step" in the belief that Alex Smith was "our guy," he said repeatedly.REWIND: Harbaugh wants Alex Smith back with 49ers
But now the 49ers have shown interest in signing free-agent Peyton Manning and Smith is obviously not satisfied with the 49ers' three-year offer. The door is open for other teams to investigate the possibility of signing Smith. The Seahawks and Dolphins have both visited with free-agent quarterback Matt Flynn, who served as Aaron Rodgers' backup for four seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
