SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers waived outside linebacker Eric Bakhtiari on Monday, a source told CSNBayArea.com, a likely precursor to bringing back veteran Clark Haggans to the 53-man roster.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said the team was required to make a roster move by Tuesday, 1 p.m. Haggans on Sunday served the third game of a three-game suspension for violating the NFL 's substance abuse policy.
The 49ers signed Bakhtiari to fill Haggans' spot on the roster three weeks ago. Bakhtiari saw limited action on defense and played special teams in each of the past three games. He was among the 49ers' final cuts before the start of the regular season.

Bakhtiari, who played for 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh at the University of San Diego, has been released 10 times by NFL teams since 2008.
The 49ers signed Haggans, 35, a 13-year pro, after backup outside linebacker Parys Haralson underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn left triceps. Haggans suited up but did not play in the first two regular-season games as a backup to starters Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks.
Haggans started all 16 games for the Arizona Cardinals last season. He played his first eight NFL seasons with the Pitsburgh Steelers before playing the past four years for the Cardinals.
