Nearly two weeks after the sides agreed to terms on a three-year contract, special-teams ace C.J. Spillman returned from vacation and officially signed the contract, the 49ers announced Tuesday."C.J. is a high-energy, productive player with a strong team-first mentality who is still developing," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement.
REWIND: Spillman signs three-year contract extension
"We are pleased to come to terms with C.J. for another three years, and look forward to his continued contributions to our organization, both on and off the field."Spillman's contract averages 1.4 million a year with an additional 600,000 available in annual incentives. Spillman will count 1.08 million against the 49ers' 2012 salary cap. Spillman, 25, has arguably been the 49ers' best special-teams player since the team claimed him off waivers from the San Diego Chargers in 2010. He led the 49ers with 19 special-teams tackles last season. He also is a reserve safety, and made two tackles on defense.
