SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers' rookies and selected veterans have a final day of practice Wednesday before the entire team gets on the field for a Thursday afternoon practice.

The early reporting date for the rookies have given many of the youngsters a head start, helping them get up to speed for the arrival of the veterans. But nothing is different for quarterback B.J. Daniels, a seventh-round draft pick from South Florida.

While players with no accrued NFL seasons were allowed to report to camp ahead of the veterans, so were all the quarterbacks. That means Daniels did not get increased repetitions during the five days of practices before the full squad was on the field. Starter Colin Kaepernick and backup Colt McCoy got the most practice snaps. Daniels is competing with Scott Tolzien for the No. 3 spot on the 49ers' roster.

Daniels has an advantage based on his versatility. He can play running back and he regularly fielded punts during the offseason program.

"I'm doing a little bit of everything right now," Daniels said. "I don't know what I'll be doing in camp. Right now, I'm doing everything I can to make sure I'm ready and available and doing everything I can to help out this team."

Wide receiver Michael Crabtree is expected to go on the active physically-unable-to-perform list upon reporting to camp. He sustained a torn right Achilles tendon on May 21. He is slated for a late-season return.

The 49ers appear to be getting Kyle Williams back soon. He seemed to hint that he is coming off the PUP list with a late-Tuesday Tweet: "Been a long time coming.. Thanks for all the support during the recovery.. #gotime."
