Jackson: Tone hasn't changed regarding Biedrins

OAKLAND -- Once upon a time, Warriors coach Mark Jacksonused to praise center Andris Biedrins. Went out of his way to praise him, andoverpraised him, according to many. This year, not so much.Jackson made it clear before training camp that he wasdisappointed Biedrins was the only Warriors no-show at a voluntary playersmini-camp in early September. And after Saturdays open scrimmage at Oracleone in whichBiedrins spent the entire time on the stationary bikeJackson seemed a touchharsh again. But after Sundays practice, Jackson insisted his tonehasnt changed when it comes to Biedrins. Not necessarily true, Jackson said. I still think hes abig-time post defender, still think hes a big-time pick-and-roll defender.Never hid the fact about his free throw shooting. At the end of the day, wedrafted a young big man and we hope to have a healthy Andrew Bogut. The competition was wide open and today Festus Ezeli is mybackup center. Unfortunately Dre got hurt. If youre the only guy not here andthen you get hurt, its unfortunate. What I will say is were going to bepatient, continue to treat him and hopefully he gets back healthy. He addsdepth to that position. But no matter who it is, we dont have time to wait foranybody in fairness with what were trying to accomplish as a team. And it was wide open. The way Nellie (Don Nelson) coachedhim, some people said it was too hard and it didnt work. I have a totallydifferent style and obviously last year didnt work as far as thinking he wasgoing to get back to his old self. But I still think he can help thisbasketball team. And Im not down on him at all. But we drafted a young big manwho has played exceptionally well this preseason. While most of the Warriors participated in a five-on-fiveopen scrimmage on Saturday at Oracle Arena, Biedrins and rookie Draymond Greenrode stationary bikes off to the side.Biedrins, who has a groin injury, didnt participate inSundays practice, either. He hasnt played or practiced since Monday, when heplayed five minutes against Utah.Afterward, Jackson was asked about the status of Biedrins, and it didnt sound like praise. Hes just rehabbing and were going to keep it moving,Jackson said. We really dont have time to wait for anybody. Were going tokeep it moving, and hes going to continue to get treatment and go throughrehab. When hes ready, well see where hes at.Biedrins, whose career has been in decline since 2009,missed the teams last exhibition game against Maccabi Haifa because of theinjury. In two games previous to that, Biedrins didnt register a point or arebound in 16 total minutes.
