I received some comments the other day after my Warriors roster breakdown story about Jeremy Lin and his contract status. There seems to be some confusion out there about whether his contract is guaranteed for next season -- 2011-12.Here's the bottom line: Lin has a contract for next season with the Warriors, but it is not guaranteed. That means Lin will be at training camp next September -- if there's no lockout -- with Golden State on a make-good contract.
In other words, Lin will be a training camp invitee in 2011-12. However, there seems to be little doubt Lin will be on the roster next season.Warriors owner Joe Lacob said as much a few months ago, calling Lin a "phenomenal signing" and categorizing the acquisition of the undrafted point guard out of Harvard as an "investment."Lin spent time between the Reno Bighorns of the D-League and the Warriors in 2010-11. Reno coach Eric Musselman called Lin the best point guard in the D-League when Lin was there.Lin also showed progress at the NBA level, playing six of the last seven Warriors' games after returning from Reno. Late in the season Lin indicated that his goal for next year is to be the team's first guard off the bench -- replacing either Stephen Curry or Monta Ellis as the team's first backcourt substitute.Lin's contract doesn't become guaranteed for the 2011-12 season until January. It is worth 788,872.Lin finished 2010-11 averaging 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Lin averaged 18 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for Reno.
