Myers talks Brandon Roy, Curry

Warriors generalmanager Bob Myers addressed a variety of subjects after the press conference onMonday introducing three of their four draft picks.Among them: Status ofacquiring Brandon Roy: Myers confirmed he will meet with Roy laterthis week to gauge whether its realistic or not to think the Warriors are inthe game.Roy retired in December2011 because of chronic knee issues, but he announced earlier this year he willattempt a comeback. Myers used to be Roys agentbefore Myers became a memberof the Warriors front office in April 2011.Roy, 27, was athree-time NBA All-Star before retiring. If healthy, he would be a terrific fitalongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. But there are morethan a half-dozen teams interested in Roy, and the Warriors wont have thefinancial wherewithal of some of them. Myers said the Warriors are unlikely touse their entire mid-level exceptionworth approximately 5 millionwhetherit be on one player or a combination because it would put the team into theluxury tax. That alone may putthem out of the Roy running, and if not that, perhaps his desire to play for acontender. In any event, Myers will meet with Roy, but it seems like a longshotat this point.StephenCurrys contract situation and health: Regarding his contract, nothinghas changed here for months, nor is it expected to. The Warriors are holdingoff on extending Curry until he is healthy, and it doesnt make a lot of sensefor Curry to sign a contract right now because his value is at its lowestbecause of recent injury. Both sides arewaiting for Curry to get healthy. Myers said Curry is on schedule and thatthe team expects Curry to be ready for training camp in the fall.OgnenKuzmics situation: The Warriors selected Kuzmic with the No. 52pick. Hes 7-feet tall, but hes raw and young (22). Myers said he expectsKuzmic to remain overseas for the 2012-13 season.Kuzmic played inSpains second-best league this past season and averaged 10.6 points and 8.4rebounds per game.Myers said Kuzmic isalso unlikely to play for the Warriors summer league team later this month inVegas because its too quick of a turnaround for Kuzmic to rejoin his nationalteam (Bosnia and Herzegovina).Characterissue: If theres one thing Myers and owner Joe Lacob have beenemphasizing the past few days its the high-character of their draft picks, and the overall notion that those are the types of players that will comprisemostif not allof the roster.Lacob and Myersalready believe they have many of those kinds of players. But they still wantmore. Myers re-iterated the teams need for a veteran player or two. Thoughthey wont have more than 2 million or 3 million to spend, according to Myers. But it sure soundslike they wont be bringing in a player who may have some issues, as they say,or could be a distraction, etc. If thats the case, dont expect the Warriorsto be reaching out for J.R. Smith, Kenyon Martin, Delonte West, Gilbert Arenas,Michael Beasley, and perhaps a few others.
