49ers add another day of red-zone practice

SANTA CLARA -- There are two teams in the league that can benefit above all the others with a Pittsburgh Steelers loss on Monday night.Obviously, the 49ers are playing the Steelers. The 49ers have the same record as the New Orleans Saints for the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs and hold the tie-breaker edge. The other team that dearly wants to see a Steelers loss is the Baltimore Ravens, who are tied with Pittsburgh atop the AFC North standings.Jim Harbuagh said he talks to Ravens coach, brother John, weekly. And this week is no different. The Ravens have already swept the season series against the Steelers this season. So did the Harbaughs talk about how to best prepare for the Steelers?
"We talked about it," Jim Harbaugh said. "We talked about last week's game, we talked about this week's game, as we often do."Possibly, John Harbaugh can supply his brother with some useful information. And the 49ers have the luxury of having just played a Steelers-like defensive scheme."As you know, Ray Horton, defensive coordinator at Arizona, was at Pittsburgh," Harbaugh said. "There's definitely a similar style."The 49ers did not use the extra day that comes along with a Monday night game to hold another day of practice, Harbaugh said. But the 49ers will devote one more day to their red-zone offense. The 49ers are the worst team in the NFL when it comes to scoring touchdowns from inside the opponents' 20-yard line. The 49ers have gotten into the red zone 45 times. They've scored just 16 touchdowns -- for a lowly 35.6 percentage. The league average is 52 percent."We're going to work on it more," Harbaugh said. "There are going to be more than one (day of work). We'll go from two to three."
