SANTA CLARA -- The 49ers have tendered contracts to restricted free agent linebacker Larry Grant and exclusive rights free agent cornerback Tramaine Brock, the club announced Monday.As CSNBayArea.com reported last week, Grant was tendered at the original round level of 1.26 million. Grant has no intention of signing the tender until he has a chance to test the market to see if a team is willing to sign him to a multi-year offer sheet.If Grant signs an offer sheet with another team, the 49ers would have the right of first refusal to match the contract. If they decline, the 49ers would receive a seventh-round draft pick as compensation.If no team signs Grant to an offer sheet by April 20, Grant will sign the tender and return to the 49ers for the 2012 season as the top backup at inside linebacker behind Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman.
Meanwhile, Brock has no outside negotiating power. Therefore, Brock will sign a one-year, 540,000 contract and would become a restricted free agent a year from now, after his third NFL season.Brock could figure prominently in the 49ers' upcoming season. Starter Carlos Rogers is scheduled to hit the free-agent market on Tuesday. Brock is the No. 3 among cornerbacks currently under contract to the 49ers behind Tarell Brown and Chris Culliver.Receiver Brett Swain, also a scheduled restricted free agent, did not receive a tender from the 49ers. He is free to negotiate with any team without the 49ers receiving any compensation. The 49ers could re-sign him at a minimum level.
