The 49ers have already added two players who did not play last season-- committing zero guaranteed dollars in the process. And they are looking at two others who fit that category, too.Veteran Leonard Davis (6-foot-6, 355 pounds) remains a possibility to be with the 49ers, as he went to the 49ers' practice facility Thursday to spend his second day with the team.
Davis, a three-time Pro Bowl player, was cut by the Dallas Cowboys after the lockout. When he finally signed with the Detroit Lions in November, he did not get off the sideline.Davis recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on a foot that has bothered him for about five years. Now, the 49ers are also looking at offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, who spent last season on injured reserve with a hip condition. He is fine now, his agent said. Schwartz started every game for the Carolina Panthers in 2010 (five at right tackle and seven at right guard).Schwartz (6-6, 331) has played two NFL seasons but is free to sign with any team after the Panthers did not give him a qualifying offer as a restricted free agent. The 49ers are looking to replace Adam Snyder, who started 15 games (including playoffs) at right guard last season. Snyder signed a five-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday.Like Snyder, Schwartz played college ball at Oregon.
