Correction: Boone, not Smith, bought chairs for O-line

SANTA CLARA -- When I was told that "Alex" bought chairs for the 49ers offensive linemen, it seemed reasonable that the quarterback would do something like that.

But, thanks to Comcast SportsNet's intrepid reporter Jaymee Sire, my error was uncovered.

Yes, I wrote Friday that Alex Smith bought chairs for the 49ers offensive line. But the Alex was actually Alex Boone, as Sire discovered when she asked Boone about Smith's apparent generosity.

The back story is that veteran Barry Sims last year told Joe Staley that he should get more comfortable chairs for the offensive linemen. Staley procrastinated. Prior to the start of the season, Boone purchased four big, cozy leather chairs for the veterans on the offensive line.

Then, Staley bought the rest of them.

Tune into SportsNet Central on Friday at 6 p.m. for the entire report, as Sire blows the lid off this story.
