Ginn confident in teammates if he can't play

SANTA CLARA -- Receiver Ted Ginn's left ankle is making progress. He's running and cutting during rehab work. But he's not sure if he'll be available to play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.Receiver Kyle Williams told his followers on Twitter that he's "feeling better everyday.. Makin progress" after sustaining a concussion Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks. When asked if Michael Crabtree and Brett Swain would be the starting receivers Sunday against the St. Louis Rams in the regular-season finale against, 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said, "It's hard to tell. I think there's a good chance of that."
The 49ers are expected to promote undrafted rookie Joe Hastings (Washburn) from the practice squad to fill the roster void created with the club's decision to release veteran Braylon Edwards. The 49ers might wait until Saturday to sign Hastings to the active roster.Hastings has made a strong impression since being a low-profile signing -- and expected camp fodder."We saw, really, everything he did -- special teams and offense -- he was doing with precision," Roman said. "He was trying to do everything with precision. Very sharp. Good speed. Good hands. Consistent catcher."As it is in training camp, you always try to give the advice to players, 'You need to do something every day to make us notice you.' He was doing more than that. He was doing a lot of things well every day. He was very consistent player. He takes coaching very well. If he makes a mistake, he puts it behind him and moves on. He has really progressed well during the season."Just from what he's seen on the practice field, he's done everything we've asked him to do at a high level."Hastings has impressed his veteran teammates, too.Ginn said there's no reason for him to rush back into the lineup because he has confidence in Swain and Hastings to fill in capably."I'm just day to day, taking my time and letting my coaches and trainers decide what I should do," Ginn said. "I'm a team player. This is about the team. That's all I say: The team, the team, the team. I'm not going to go out there and hurt the team trying to prove a point and make a statement. I believe in the guys in our room."RELATED: 49ers 2011 stats
When asked specifically about Hastings, Ginn had a glowing report of the unassuming 6-foot, 185-pounder."Joe has been here since Day 1," Ginn said. "Hard-nosed guy. He's going to get it done, no matter how he has to get it done. He'll get it done. I know everybody has high confidence in him."Some guys have a certain way they carry themselves, and Joe was never afraid of us. He came in and he always asked questions. He always stuck around. He always wanted to know what was going on. If he had a question, he asked. So that's all you can do as a rookie. At the end of the day, if he ever gets an opportunity, I think he can step right in and fill any shoes."
