INDIANAPOLIS -- On the outside wall of Lucas Oil Stadium is a larger-than life picture of a quarterback who, in this city, is viewed as larger-than life.Quarterback Andrew Luck, who has played his final game at Stanford, appears likely to play his next game for the Indianapolis Colts, perhaps replacing future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning.Luck was the center of attention Friday at the NFL scouting combine after walking into the house that Peyton built. The Colts own the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft.
"I'm not too caught up in that right now," Luck said when asked about the possibility of supplanting Manning as the Colts' quarterback."I understand that is a possibility. Peyton was my hero growing up. He was my football hero. That's who I modeled myself after in high school, middle school, whatever it was. You never truly replace a guy like that. And who knows what happens? So many different things can happen. I'm not thinking about it too much right now."Manning, of course, replaced Jim Harbaugh as Colts quarterback after being chosen with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1998 draft."If you're gonna be replaced by someone, that's a pretty good one to be replaced by, isn't it?" said Harbaugh, who was named NFL Coach of the Year after leading the 49ers to a 13-3 record and appearance in the NFC Championship. "I kind of take some pride in that."Harbaugh can also take pride in helping to develop Luck to the point of being the likely No. 1 overall pick in the April draft."He's been an unbelievable resource ever since coming out of high school, to dealing with college, things that come with being a quarterback and maybe getting a little more attention than other people," Luck said."I definitely stay in touch with him. I've called and asked for advice on certain things, texted him. I'm not surprised at all with the success he's had with San Francisco. It's very well-deserved. He's a great resource. I feel very fortunate to have been coached by him."When asked if he knew much about Harbaugh's career with the Colts, Luck deadpanned, "I am familiar with Captain Comeback."
