Morgan recovery ahead of schedule

SANTA CLARA -- Receiver Joshua Morgan's recovery from a fractured right lower leg is ahead of schedule, he told CSNBayArea.com in an exclusive conversation Wednesday morning upon leaving the 49ers practice facility.Morgan, who had just concluded a workout, said he is scheduled in a couple weeks to have the screws removed from the October surgery that were inserted to repair the fracture just above the ankle."After that, I'll be able to start running -- late December or January," Morgan said.RELATED: Morgan's open letter to 49ers fans
The 49ers placed Morgan on injured reserve Oct. 12, three days after he sustained the injury in the final minutes of the 49ers' 48-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After being placed on IR, Morgan is not eligible to return to the 49ers this season, including the playoffs.Morgan, 26, a four-year NFL veteran, is in the final year of his contract. Coach Jim Harbaugh said afterward that it's a priority for the 49ers to re-sign Morgan for 2012.At the time of his injury, Morgan led all 49ers wide receivers with 15 catches for 220 yards and a touchdown.
