Receiverreturn specialist Ted Ginn, whose absence from the NFC championship game might have prevented the 49ers from a berth in the Super Bowl, is expected to meet with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday or Thursday, reports Booth Newspapers.Ginn, a five-year veteran, became an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday. The 49ers ripped up the final year of his contract before the start of the 2011 season in exchange for Ginn accepting a 1.2 million pay cut to remain with the organization.
The Lions envision Ginn as the team's fourth receiver and return specialist, according to the report. Ginn averaged 27.6 yards on 29 kickoff returns. He returned 38 punts and 18 fair catches without a fumble and averaged 12.3 yards per return.Ginn was unable to play in the NFC championship game against the New York Giants due to a knee injury. The 49ers turned to inexperienced Kyle Williams, whose two turnovers were critical mistakes in the 49ers' 20-17 overtime loss to the Giants.
