Suh: ‘Guard me or I'll continue to hit your quarterback'

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh made the Pro Bowl and was the NFL defensive rookie of the season. On a conference call Thursday with reporters who cover the 49ers, Suh came off as a cordial, well-spoken young man. But on the field, he transforms into a quarterback-hitting, fine-attracting terror."I don't think any part of my game is intimidation, fear factor," Suh said. "It's more of, you either need to guard me or I'll continue to hit your quarterback. And if you're not going to protect your quarterback from me, then I'm going to continue to hit him."And it's not necessarily me putting fear of I want you to be scared of me. It's the fear of if you don't take care of business and you don't study and come up with a great plan, the other eight, nine guys I play next to are going to go after your quarterback, as well."Right guard Adam Snyder will be looking across at Suh (6-foot-4, 307 pounds) for most of the day Sunday when the 49ers face the unbeaten Lions at Ford Field. Suh had 10 sacks as a rookie. But he said he's noticed opposing teams countering this season with a lot more double-teams. He has two sacks through five games.
"It's going to be a challenge," Snyder said. "The guy's a good player. He's quick, really good with his hands. He's a big dude."Suh said the 49ers' offense poses a big threat to the Lions, too."They have a great tandem of running backs, in obviously, Frank Gore and (Kendall) Hunter," Suh said. "They're workhorses and get the job done for them. The biggest thing I've noticed within their offense is they try and play their game and limit mistakes. I know as a team, we've always capitalized on mistakes. We need not to let them have any breakout runs. They pride their offense on running the ball. One thing we need to do is shut them down."Snyder will likely start his third game at right guard after taking over for Chilo Rachal, whom the 49ers benched at halftime of the Sept. 25 game at Cincinnati."Know they had a little bit of trouble at right guard and made a switch in the last two weeks with Snyder," Suh said. "So that'll be interesting since I've watched both of those guys. I'm not sure which one I'll see, but I'm assuming Snyder will be the main one I see, first and foremost."
