SANTA CLARA -- Receiver Kyle Williams was seeing red on Thursday, all because the NFL saw too much white on his socks.

Williams was fined 5,000 by the NFL for a uniform violation in the 49ers' 21-19 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He plans to appeal the fine, he said.

This is the second uniform violation for Williams in three weeks. Williams, Michael Crabtree, Ted Ginn and Braylon Edwards were fined 5,000 apiece for wearing too much white on their socks and shoes for the Thanksgiving game against the Baltimore Ravens.

"They usually tell you before the game if there's a problem," Williams said Thursday. "They didn't say anything to me this time, so I'm going to fight it."
