Willis sidelined with hamstring strain

SAN FRANCISCO -- Linebacker Patrick Willis, a 49ers four-time Pro Bowl selection in his first four NFL seasons, sustained a right hamstring strain in the first quarter against the St. Louis Rams and was doubtful to return to action.Willis is considered one of the leading contenders for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He entered the game Sunday with 115 tackles (second on the team, according to the coaches' video review). He also has two sacks, 12 passes defensed, one interception four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.Larry Grant replaced Willis in the 49ers' lineup, alongside NaVorro Bowman at inside linebacker in the 49ers' 3-4 defense.
Willis sustained his injury as he missed a first-quarter tackle attempt on Rams fullback Brit Miller, who gained 18 yards on a swing pass.
