Willis sits out practice to rehab hamstring

SANTA CLARA -- Linebacker Patrick Willis did not take part in 49ers practice Thursday, as he went through light rehab on his right hamstring during the period time that the media is allowed to watch.Willis worked with Mark Uyeyama, 49ers head strength and conditioning coach, and athletic trainer Jeff Ferguson on a side field. Willis did squats while holding a medicine ball, as well as walking with high knees.Willis has not yet started to run after sustaining a Grade II hamstring strain Dec. 4 against the St. Louis Rams. Willis did not suit up for the game Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, and his status for Monday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is also in doubt.
Left tackle Joe Staley has not been cleared to practice after sustaining an apparent concussion Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Staley walked out to the field Thursday to observe the team portion of practice.
