Jim Harbaugh is on the verge of accomplishing the goal Mike Nolan and Mike Singletary set for the 49ers over the previous six seasons. In this edition of "Matt & Mindi," we talk about the evolution of the 49ers over the past several years.

The nucleus of the team was built before Harbaugh arrived. And, in many ways, the philosophy of winning games with defense and featuring a physical, run-oriented offense has not changed, either. When Nolan was hired, the 49ers' roster was gutted. The talent was better by the time Singletary took over. He had the right idea of what could make the 49ers successful, but he did not know how to get there.Harbaugh and his coaching staff have supplied the answers en route to a 9-2 record. And with a victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, the 49ers will win the NFC West for the first time since 2002.Follow Mindi Bach on Twitter: @MBachCSN
