Programming note: Tune into 49ers Central tonight at 7pm for the latest on the 49ers leading up to Sunday’s NFC Championship in Atlanta, only on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area
Atlanta defensive end John Abraham and his 122 career sacks, including 10 this past season, could only watch from the second quarter on Sunday as the Falcons' once 20-0 halftime lead disintegrated into a 28-27 deficit against Seattle with 31 seconds to play.
Abraham had re-tweaked his sprained left ankle in the NFC divisional playoff game, originally suffered in the regulator season finale, and could no longer push off the foot. He was only able to play in 15 snaps, per AtlantaFalcons.com.
But after the Falcons came back to win, 30-28, to set up an NFC title game against the 49ers, Abraham said he will play this weekend.
"Oh yeah, you know me, you can't keep me out of that game," Abraham said in the postgame locker room, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We're going to treat the (heck) out of (the ankle)."
Monday, Falcons coach Mike Smith echoed those sentiments.
"We anticipate John will be back out practicing with us before the end of the week," Smith said in his media conference.
